Meeting Ourselves Where We Are

There are moments in life when we don’t particularly enjoy our own company.

We’re anxious.

Confused.

Overwhelmed.

We keep making the same mistakes.

We react in ways we don’t understand.

We say things we wish we could take back.

Sometimes we simply don’t like the person we’ve become.

Sometimes, there comes a moment when we simply stop running.

We finally allow ourselves to look honestly at where we are.

I think that’s where every authentic journey begins.

Not with change.

With honesty.

The Questions We Ask Matter

I’ve come to value difficult questions.

The right question has the power to change the direction of an entire life.

But I’ve also learned that not all questions come from the same place.

Sometimes we ask from curiosity.

Sometimes from self-hatred.

And although the words may sound similar…

The experience is completely different.

There’s a world of difference between asking:

*”What am I not seeing yet?”*

And asking:

*”What’s wrong with me?”*

Between:

*”What is this trying to teach me?”*

And:

*”How could I have been so stupid?”*

One question opens a door.

The other quietly closes it.

Meeting Ourselves

Seeing ourselves honestly is only the first step.

The second is deciding how we’re going to meet what we find.

With judgment?

With shame?

With guilt?

With endless self-criticism?

Or…

With enough compassion to stay present instead of looking away?

That doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine.

It doesn’t mean approving of every choice we’ve made.

It simply means allowing ourselves to acknowledge reality without turning ourselves into the enemy.

The Loop of Self-Judgment

In my experience, this is where many people become stuck.

Not because they can’t see.

But because they can’t stop judging what they see.

They discover a pattern.

Then they blame themselves for not discovering it sooner.

They recognize a limiting belief.

Then they criticize themselves for believing it in the first place.

They begin understanding why they’ve struggled…

Only to feel guilty for the years they believe they’ve wasted.

It’s a painful loop.

And it’s surprisingly difficult to move forward while constantly putting yourself on trial.

Staying With Ourselves

I’ve come to believe that one of the most difficult parts of any inner journey isn’t uncovering another truth.

It’s learning how to stay with ourselves once we have.

Sometimes the greatest act of courage isn’t uncovering another painful truth.

It’s staying with ourselves after we’ve uncovered it.

Without turning away.

Without adding another layer of shame.

Without making ourselves wrong for being exactly where we are today.

Beginning From Reality

We cannot begin from the person we wish we were.

We can only begin from the person we are today.

Messy.

Uncertain.

Learning.

Taking action.

Sometimes succeeding.

Sometimes failing.

Always human.

The invitation is simple.

Meet yourself where you are at.

Not because you intend to stay there.

But because it’s the only place from which real change can begin.

Learning to meet ourselves with compassion and acceptance isn’t simply part of the journey.

It is the journey.

With curiosity and an open heart.
