One of the things writing has taught me is that perspective has a rhythm.
Sometimes I need to zoom in.
To spend half an hour looking for a single word.
A single sentence.
A single comma.
And sometimes…
The very same focus becomes the problem.
Because the closer I get…
The easier it becomes to lose sight of the whole.
That’s when I have to step back.
Not because the details don’t matter.
They do.
They matter tremendously.
But details only make sense when they still belong to something larger.
When Life Asks the Same of Us
I’ve been wondering whether life asks the same of us.
There are seasons when we need to zoom in.
To pay close attention to one relationship.
One fear.
One habit.
One conversation.
One painful memory.
One tiny step.
And there are other moments when we’ve stayed there for too long.
When we’ve become so absorbed by one part of the story…
That we’ve forgotten there is still an entire story.
Sometimes the opposite happens.
We stay so focused on the bigger picture that we avoid looking closely at what is right in front of us.
The uncomfortable emotion.
The choice we’ve been postponing.
The Rhythm of Wisdom
Neither perspective is wrong.
Neither is enough on its own.
Perhaps wisdom isn’t knowing where to look.
Perhaps it’s knowing when to zoom in…
And when to zoom out.
I’m still learning that rhythm.
With curiosity and an open heart.
